All You Need To Know About Schema Markups

If you are new to the word “schema markups”, don’t get frightened!

A schema markup is a code in the form of structured data that communicates the following information to the search engine:

  • The meaning of your page,

  • Elements in your page

  • How users should see your page

Schema markups communicate to search engines in a language that search engines can understand.

The challenging part?

What is easy for search engines to understand may not be as simple for non techy founders like you and me to understand and implement.

Not to worry!

I have simplified it as much as I can in this article. And with the fact that I have managed to successfully implement it for my business, I am sure you can implement it for your business too…

So lets get to why Schema Markups are important before delving into how you can implement them:

Why Is Schema Markup Important for SEO?

The point of schema markups is to communicate better with search engines. When Google understands your website on a deeper level, it serves better results to searchers.

Items like rich cards, rich snippets, and the knowledge panel appear on Google Search Results page after collecting information from structured data.

While there is no evidence that schema will improve your rankings, it does provide a wealth of opportunities.

For example, a search result without sitelinks only gives searchers a title and meta description of the linked page:

However, a search result with sitelinks gives searchers the main linked page along with similar site pages that might interest them more:

If the user wasn’t attracted to click the title of your web page, there are still other chances to get them on your site with sitelinks.

In short, Schema Markups are meant to help search Engines Understand what your Data Means & attract users better to click on to your website.

What can you have Schema Markups for?

How can you implement Schema Markups?

How can you check if your schema markup has been implemented well?

  • Here are the results which show that I have an Article schema and Blog Post schema successfully implemented for my specific gift blog page URL that I entered.

As a result of the schema implemented successfully, Google can display the search result as shown below (even linking with the subheadings in my article such as Farewell Gifts for Male Colleagues & Farewell Gifts for Female Colleagues):

To summarise:

  • Decide on the schema markups you want to have or which are suitable for your business.

  • Implement the schema markups or get someone to do it for you by clicking here. I got someone to do my schema markup for me too. Because I kind of s*** in tech related stuff and would rather leave it to the experts.
